Book Character Memes

Before I begin my thinking and how of making book character memes I wanted to share where I saw this idea and through what platform.

I was watching a periscope stream by a teacher from America and she was talking about creating character memes using meme creators.
Periscope is a sister program of twitter; you need twitter to use the app/program.
I am yet to jump in and stream myself but there is so many great educators that are using this platform to share their ideas and thoughts.

FABULOUS & FREE professional development!

How great are teachers at finding ways to use technology for educational purposes by the way!!

I loved this idea and thought it would be a great closing activity to a novel study or once students have finished their own novel.
Students and draw or find an image and they can use a quote directly from their book or they can imagine what their character would say using the information gathered from their reading.

There is a variety of apps that can enable this, some free and some paid.
Using a program like google slides, pages anything that enables images and texts to be manipulated is also a good idea. Students can take a screenshot of their final product and crop it to get a clean product.

Why memes?
They are everywhere at the moment and students are seeing them quite a bit so why not use that and manipulate it so it works in a learning/sharing task.

This is a task that would work best with older students; year 5 and up, year 4’s may be able to do this but this depends on their reading level and comprehension as well as digital technology skills.
You guys are the ones who know your students the best 🙂
