A Professional Development Day: George Couros

George Couros Professional Development Day Begins ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to admit i’m not a morning person, so this was early for a uni student (me). I had a coffee in my hand, and as i walked past this sign, i got EXCITED!ย Selena had been talking George up all throughout our workshops and on twitter, so he had a lot to live up to.

So i headed for the lecture. Firstly I will note this was one of the most inspiring, engaging and exciting lecture i have ever viewed!

Keynote Address

Here are a few photos from the lecture as well as videos that were shared with us during the lecture.

Barack Obama Singing Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson

This video shows just what can be done with technology these days. Take the words of a president from all different speeches and turn them into a Carly Rae Song.

YouTube is a great example of how anything can go viral.. This man was arrested and was extremely drunk and this is what the police car camera caught.

Having a conversation with yourself in the past.

I love this idea, could be done with a whole school. Students record themselves in reception asking questions, then they answer those questions during year 7. Brilliant!

After the Lecture we move to the first workshop of the day. George introduced us to many wonderful things ๐Ÿ™‚

Google Chrome: Which i installed on my laptop as soon as i got home and it is amazing!

Tweet Deck

RT Old School: Installed on twitter

and Flick CC Attribution Helper you can add toย Googleย chrome.

George got us all on twitter and helped us form connections with educators all around the world. AWESOME much!

After the first workshop we had a break ๐Ÿ™ but it wasย OKย cause we had a second workshop.

4:15 = Time for second workshop ๐Ÿ™‚ This one was all about blogging. Which to be honest i didnt have much interest in, but George can be convincing. He got us all to set up our own blog and went through it step by step with us. As you can see I now thoroughly enjoying using wordpress ๐Ÿ™‚

It is fair to say that every member of the last workshop could have stayed there all night learning along with George, unfortunately the day had finished ๐Ÿ™
But not before some photos ๐Ÿ™‚ and a present for George ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are just a few tweets from throughout the day (and yes i mean it a few, there would have been a few hundred on the day!)

  2. Hi Jess,

It is great to see you blogging. I’m glad you found the PD so valuable.
I look forward to following your journey through the rest of your studies.
We are so lucky to be able to connect. Without Twitter and Blogging its likely we would never have connected. There are so many possibilities for the future.

Stick at it and rally some troops!

    1. Monday was awesome. Waking up to the reality of hw on Tuesday was a bit of a let down though. Got distracted by Twitter and Blogging ๐Ÿ™‚

Makes you think how hard it was to connect with people in the past, especially educators, we are so lucky to live in this day and age with so many ways in which we can all connect with each other!
