Session #6
A-Z OF LESSER KNOWN GOOGLEY GOODNESS – Kimberly Hall
My favourite links that Kimberly shared during her a-z session that I thought would be most useful for me in the classroom or as a teacher.
CLASSROOM
Earth View (everytime you open a new tab it has a new satellite image, tells you where it is and you can click to go to google earth)
CraftyRights (image search extension, filters images free of copyright restrictions)
Move it (Chrome Extension: makes you take a quick physical break when you’re sitting at your computer)
WriQ
Add on to google docs, once enabled it will be under add-ons. Will check students work. They can do this themselves too if on a laptop/computer and they install it.
TEACHER
Assistant.to (Scheduling)
Doodle.com (Scheduling)
Command + v + shift will wipe the formatting for what you have copied
Nope (Chrome Extention – funny one for the teacher who doesn’t want to get distracted by co-workers)
FUN
Google Feud (can be potentially dangerous depending on question/results) (Safe settings?)
I also bought myself another professional development book… because apparently I needed another one :O haha I’m a sucker for a good book! I got a lot to read, but at least I know I have them there for when I need them.
Session #7
G SUITE APPS TRICKS AND TRICKS – Monica Isabel Martinez
command + shift + t recovers a closed tab
Google slides now has video options when you insert a youtube clip.
– You can change the start and end time (Doesn’t change getting ads)
– Autoplay when presenting
– Mute Audio
Use safeshare.tv to remove ads, comments etc. As well as trimming the start and end. No side videos. Will give you a new link where students can end up instead of youtube. You can not insert this into google slides but you can link your students to it. SafeShare needs to communicate with youtube so if you’re school doesn’t allow student access to youtube this won’t work.
Flippity
– Has different templates.
– It creates a google spreadsheet for you, you will be prompted to make a copy.
– Edit questions and answers to suit your class and current topic you’re studying.
– Publish to the web (via File) and use the link that it gives you to play the game.
Want to make you google spreadsheet rainbow without formatting?
Type in PRIDE with one letter per cell across and click enter. Then hide the row by right-clicking to keep the formatting.
*Want to freak someone out? Type in ‘do a barrel roll ‘ into the omni box…

Session #8
MYMAPS… STUDENT CREATED GOOGLE MAPS – Marty McGauran
How have I not used this yet!!
I can’t wait until I have a classroom again so I can implement this program into my programming!
Can be used individually or collaboratively.
Below I have attached screenshots of some examples we were shown during the session…
MyMaps can be embedded into google sites.
Students can share their maps with a URL

Every interaction matters, no matter how small.

Empowering Learning for Life.
Do your students have agency?
How long are your students having to wait? In line? For instructions? For a question?
Greg O’Connor
Education shouldn’t be designed for the average. A year 7 textbook is designed for the average student who can read at that year level.
Another totally random thing that I learnt.
When putting links up for students use different colours within the link so it is easier for the students to read the link.
This is something that would be useful if you have a long URL or a URL with similar characters to help define. Multiple words next to one another is a good example.
